Winter Institute: Hotel Deadline, Volunteer Assignments

January 16 Deadline for Special Rate at Overflow Hotel

This Friday, January 16, is the last day to secure the special ABA rate at Winter Institute 10’s overflow hotel, the Asheville Renaissance. The special rate is $129 plus tax per night and includes daily shuttle service to the Winter Institute host hotel, the Grove Park Inn. Click here to make a reservation.

Existing reservations at the Renaissance can be updated directly with the hotel.

Let ABA Know if Your Plans Have Changed

Winter Institute registrants who are no longer planning to attend are asked to notify the American Booksellers Association as soon as possible. To cancel, booksellers should send an e-mail to [email protected] and indicate whether they have a reservation at the Grove Park Inn or a spot on the hotel waitlist that can be given to another bookseller.

Until January 30, any changes to reservations at the Grove Park Inn should be made through ABA rather than the hotel to ensure that canceled rooms go to waiting booksellers; after January 30, booksellers can update their reservations directly with the Inn.

Volunteer Assignments on the Way

Booksellers who signed up to be volunteers at Winter Institute should be on the lookout for their proposed assignments, which will be arriving next week in an e-mail from ABA Membership and Marketing Officer Meg Smith.

Following the request for Winter Institute volunteers, ABA experienced a fantastic response from booksellers across the nation. Due to the overwhelming number of interested booksellers, not all who signed up to volunteer will be selected for assignments. 

Those selected as volunteers should plan to attend the Winter Institute Welcome Reception, to be held Sunday, February 8, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at The Venue in downtown Asheville. At the event, each volunteer can collect their Winter Institute T-shirt and an IndieBound button, which is to be worn on their name badge for the duration of Winter Institute to signify volunteer status.
