Share Your Brilliance! ABA to Call for Education Proposals for Winter Institute 2020
- By Liz Button
Ahead of the 15th annual Winter Institute in January 2020, ABA will launch an online form that booksellers can use to submit proposals for education programming.
The form will go live on Wednesday, April 10. Watch next week’s issue of Bookselling This Week for the link to the form.
“This is an opportunity for booksellers to propose detailed suggestions for ABA education and to engage with their peers on topics and issues important to them and the larger bookselling community,” said ABA Senior Education Manager Lisa Winn.
The proposal form includes fields for session descriptions, education tracks, and formats (panel, idea exchange, workshop, or 20-minute presentation); booksellers should also have potential presenters and moderators in mind. Submitting a proposal does not guarantee a session will be part of next year’s lineup. Submissions will be accepted until Friday, May 10.
Several education sessions held at the 2019 Winter Institute in Albuquerque arose from ideas inspired by or suggestions originally proposed by booksellers, including “How to be a Highly Effective Bookseller, Manager, or Buyer,” “Yes She Can: Programs and Partnerships to Empower Women,” “Do We Need to Talk? Surviving the Political and Cultural Divide With Co-workers,” and “Dealing With Difficult People.”
Booksellers also have the option to send input, general suggestions, and feedback to Winn and ABA’s education department staff by e-mailing [email protected] or [email protected].
The 15th Winter Institute will take place in Baltimore, Maryland, from January 21-24, 2020.
