Independent Bookstore Day Reveals 2015 Logo
Independent Bookstore Day, a national celebration of local booksellers taking place on May 2, 2015, now has an official, bookseller-designed logo for its inaugural event. The colorful, inspiring logo created by Claire Anderson-Ramos of The Book Cellar in Chicago, Illinois, showcases the power of books and independent bookstores.
Booksellers will soon be able to access the logo and other important information online when Independent Bookstore Day organizers put the finishing touches on an event website in conjunction with the California Bookstore Day site. In the meantime, booksellers are encouraged to follow Independent Bookstore Day on Twitter and Facebook to keep up with news and updates about the event. Preliminary information about Independent Bookstore Day can be found on California Bookstore Day’s website.
The Northern California Independent Booksellers Association is working with the other eight regional bookseller associations to coordinate Independent Bookstore Day. Any dues-paying bookstore member in good standing with their regional booksellers association is welcome to participate in Independent Bookstore Day. Stores can sign up to participate here.
Major publishers as well as California Bookstore Day (CBD) Publishing will be developing special, literary-themed items for booksellers to sell on Independent Bookstore Day. California Bookstore Day is handling the curating, ordering, and distribution of materials for the event through Ingram. The limited-edition items will be featured in detail in an online catalog, to be released January 15, and orders will be taken through February 1. Merchandise will begin shipping in April.
Items include:
- A signed, original print from Chris Ware (Penguin Random House)
- A “Books on Books” set in a specially designed tin (includes Shadow of the Wind; 84, Charring Cross Road; The Borrower; and The Bookman’s Tale)
- A Literary Map of the Seas from 3Fish Studios (CBD Publishing)
- A joke book for kids featuring jokes and illustrations from more than 35 authors including William Joyce, Kate DiCamillo, and David LaRochelle (CBD Publishing)
- A “Guess How Much I Love to Read” baby onesie (Candlewick)
- An original, signed chapbook from Roxane Gay (HarperCollins)
To learn more about Independent Bookstore Day, booksellers are encouraged to attend the Winter Institute session “All About Independent Bookstore Day” on Monday, February 9, 2015, from 3:35 to 4:45 p.m.
