Children’s Institute Scholarships Up for Grabs: Act Now

Booksellers who are interested in attending the 2019 ABC Children’s Institute are invited to submit their names by Tuesday, December 4, for the opportunity to win a scholarship. The chances of winning a scholarship are high, so booksellers are encouraged to submit their names as soon as possible.

The American Booksellers Association’s seventh Children’s Institute (Ci7) will be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from Wednesday, June 26, through Friday, June 28. Registration for the institute is set to open in February.

Following the sixth Children’s Institute, attendees said they found the event to be “just outstanding on every level.” One bookseller could not choose her favorite part of the institute because, she said, “I was informed, moved, and entertained by all of it!” With Ci7 just around the corner, ABA has begun to make big plans to bring even more education and programming to booksellers in attendance. 

ABA is committed to awarding a number of scholarships to booksellers from diverse backgrounds and aims to make Children’s Institute as welcoming and inclusive as possible. To assist scholarship discussions, booksellers can use the application to describe what makes them diverse, whether it is race, class, gender, sexual identity, physical ability, cultural background, or something else. 

Booksellers from ABA member stores that did not have a Children’s Institute scholarship winner in 2017 or 2018 are eligible for the scholarships, which will cover the conference fee, the cost of airfare or ground transportation up to $400, and three hotel nights plus tax.
