This summer, Reader’s Digest is giving readers the chance to nominate any town, city, organization, or business across the country as the kindest, nicest place in the U.S.

ABA member bookstores must submit their responses for the Institute for Local Self-Reliance and the Advocates for Independent Business’ survey about business challenges by Wednesday, May 8.

Shakespeare & Co. to open new location; Linda’s Story Time sold, renamed Turning the Page; Old Town Books pop-up goes permanent; Northshire welcomes new café; Carmichael’s, The Lit. Bar, Jane Addams, Literati, Uncle Bobbie’s, MahogonyBooks, Sankofa, Pyramid, Wild Geese, The Bookshop, Raven Book Store, Greedy Reads featured in local news; New Dominion hosts Rose Garden Party; The Novel Neighbor hosts OMG Bookfest; BookPeople to host Summer Reading Splash; and more.

Booksellers are encouraged to send in photos and shelf-talkers for “Featured Shelf-talkers” and “Bookstore Showcase,” two special features on BookWeb.org that highlight individual bookstores.

Reader’s Digest is giving readers the chance this summer to nominate any town, city, organization, or business across America as the kindest, nicest place in the country.

On April 27, CEO Oren Teicher represented the American Booksellers Association at the grand opening of The Lit. Bar, the new independent bookstore and wine bar in the South Bronx.

In situations where weather, illness, or an accident disrupts a bookseller’s ability to make a living, the Book Industry Charitable Foundation will help with both business and personal expenses.

In contrast to the previous two years, #HarperCollinsLovesIndies videos will focus more on hand-selling in 2019 than on store tours. This year’s livestreamed videos will air on Thursdays instead of Saturdays.
