Store Manager for Inquiring Minds Bookstore

Inquiring Minds Bookstore & Cafe, an independent bookstore in Saugerties NY, is seeking a full time Store Manager to oversee all aspects of bookstore operations, as well as working with the Cafe Supervisor to oversee management of the in-store cafe. We are a new and used bookstore, offering a variety of books, vinyl, CDs, beverages, and locally sourced baked goods. 

Responsibilities:
  • Day-to-day store operations 

  • Oversight of staff and all operations, including customer service, merchandising, stock management, staff schedules 

  • Create a welcoming environment with constantly rotating displays reflective of current themes and issues

  • With owner, conduct all ordering/buying for the store 

  • Oversight of receiving new/used books and sidelines, inventory management, shipping and returns

  • Preparation and coordination of invoices and accounts payable

  • Effectively communicate with vendors, authors, customers, and staff  

Requirements:
  • Retail and/or bookstore experience is greatly preferred.

  • MUST LOVE READING

  • A strong work ethic and consistent attendance  

  • Exceptional people and communication skills

  • Great organizational skills and attention to detail 

  • Ability to initiate and implement ideas 

  • Knowledge of the contemporary reading landscape 

  • Strong Excel and google suite knowledge 

  • Flexibility in schedule; weekends (Saturday or Sunday) and holidays are required  

This is a full-time, 40hr/week position to start in mid-July, 2024.
