WHAT: Join the American Booksellers Association and National Book Foundation to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the National Book Awards. From October 2 to October 16, show us how your store is promoting the 2024 National Book Awards Finalists — including the soon-to-be-announced Winners — through creative, in-store book displays for a chance to win two tickets and travel to the 75th National Book Awards Ceremony & Benefit Dinner on Wednesday, November 20, in New York City.

WHO: American Bookseller Association member bookstores with Instagram accounts can create National Book Awards displays for customers to enjoy. Judging of all eligible entries will be conducted by the American Bookseller Association’s Communications & Marketing team.

WHEN: The contest runs October 2–16. Judges will award one (1) grand prize, consisting of two (2) tickets to the 75th National Book Awards Ceremony & Benefit Dinner on Wednesday, November 20, in addition to roundtrip main cabin airfare and two nights of hotel accommodations in New York City; and two (2) honorable mention prizes, consisting of one signed set of the 25 Finalists for the 2024 National Book Awards. Prize winners will be announced on October 25. Honorable mention prizes will be distributed shortly after the Awards Ceremony on November 20.

HOW: Bookstore Instagram accounts have until Wednesday, October 16, at 5:00 pm ET, to share one in-feed post (photo/photo carousel/reel). Make sure to tag @AmericanBooksellers and @NationalBookFoundation, and use #NBAwards in the caption to be entered to win.

Your display should:

  • Feature the Finalists of the 2024 National Book Awards
  • Clearly mark the display with “Celebrating 75 Years” and “National Book Awards”
  • Use text or visuals to draw your customers’ attention and promote the 75th National Book Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, November 20. Register to tune-in live at nationalbook.org/watch.

Some additional recommendations:

  • Place your display somewhere visible and eye-catching.
  • Curate across any or all five Awards categories — Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Translated Literature, and Young People’s Literature.
  • Create community leading up to the National Book Awards — or even host a watch party!

Judging criteria:
