Getting Started

What’s IndieBound?
IndieBound is a socially-conscious movement in support of independent businesses and shopping locally, starting with indie bookstores. It’s about raising awareness, it’s about reaching out, and it’s about taking pride in your community. It's about what makes your hometown a more interesting place.

How do I join the movement?
Independently owned ABA-member bookstores are automatically part of the IndieBound movement, with access to in-store and community outreach materials created by ABA.

Not an ABA member? Find out more about membership benefits here.

If you are a member and haven’t received any IndieBound materials, contact your Member Relationship Manager.

What do I get and when?
All members receive the Literary Liberation Box, the IndieBound start-up kit, full of posters, bookmarks, buttons, staff shirts, decals and more. Check the Bookseller Resources page for detailed info.

The box also includes the IndieBound Fan Manual, your guide to the ins and outs of the movement, and the Public Relations Primer, your resource for spreading the IndieBound message to and reaching out to your customers and beyond.

The Indie Next List fliers will be included in monthly Red Box shipments (find out more about Red and White Boxes here). Indie Bestseller Lists are posted weekly for download and display.

Periodically you’ll also receive updates and new stuff, so keep up with the news in Bookselling This Week and on BookWeb.org!

How else can I get involved?

If I don't want to receive IndieBound materials, can I opt-out?
Sure. You can do so through our web form.
