"Bookselling was and is for me a cultural and political expression, an expression of progressive change, of challenge to oppressive authority, of a search for a community of values that can act as an underpinning of a better world. The true profit in bookselling is the social profit; the bottom line, the measure of the impact of the bookshop on the community."
— A. David Schwartz, Harry W. Schwartz Bookshops

Events

Great opportunities to meet other booksellers, publishers, and favorite authors!

As autumn arrives, so, too, do the trade shows hosted by the regional booksellers associations. These events feature exhibitors and networking opportunities, and ABA offers educational programming at every show.

ABA Annual Meeting & Programming
BEA is a must-attend event held every year in the late spring. It features 2,000+ exhibits from publishers, vendors, and suppliers — as well as 60+ conference sessions. Conduct business, hone your bookselling skills at ABA educational programs, network with your fellow members, and meet many of your favorite authors! New York City, June 4 - 7, 2012, Jacob K. Javits Convention Center

The ABA Winter Institute is an annual opportunity for ABA bookstore members to learn, network, and just have fun. The Winter Institute is free to bookstore and provisional members, and the extensive education program is chock-full of in-depth sessions, special events, provocative speakers, festive receptions, and much more. Wi7 will be held in New Orleans, from Wednesday through Friday, January 18 - 20, 2012.

Every spring, the ABA executive staff travels the country and — in conjunction with regional association events — offers a preview of new ABA educational sessions about the business of bookselling.
